All of our farms are Juan Peña certified
As we have begun to source coffee from different locations throughout Ecuador, it has become important for us to explain how we are different from an “Exporter”. In our nature we are, and always will be, a producer (a farmer) of coffee. We follow each kilogram of coffee from all farms through all our processes as if it were from our farm at Hacienda la Papaya. With this in mind, we have established the mark, “Juan Peña Certified” so that when this mark appears, customers know the coffee has been processed and packaged at our plant. As Hacienda la Papaya has earned a reputation for the superb cultivation of coffee beans, CafExporto is earning a reputation for the offering of diverse specialty coffees, world-class processing, packaging and customer service.
Technology at the Farm
At Hacienda la Papaya, we blend traditional coffee growing wisdom with advanced agricultural technologies to enhance plant health and coffee quality. Using sensor technology to monitor and optimize nutrient intake has led to yearly improvements in our coffee. The foundation of quality coffee starts with the best beans.
Real-Time Nutrient, Pest & Disease Monitoring
We use advanced sensors to measure soil nutrients around our coffee plants, providing real-time data for immediate and accurate adjustments. This ensures optimal plant growth and enhances coffee flavor. Pest and disease is proactively controlled by state of the art platform that shares the health of each plant and allows proactive action that greatly reduces any control substances.
Coffee Processing
We are on the cutting edge of all evolving processing methods. We are especially lucky to work with many customers who experiment with us each year. We do not follow “short-lived” flavor trends but constantly explore way that unlock the embedded flavors of the bean.
Tailored Fertilization Practices
Our team formulates specialized fertilizers based on soil sensor data and ongoing plant analysis. These customized fertilizers improve plant health and bean flavor.
Third-Party Analysis
We regularly enlist third-party experts to analyze our plants and soil, validating our data and refining our fertilization formulas for effective nutrient management.
Responsive and Adaptive Management
We operate a dynamic feedback loop where sensor data and third-party analyses inform continuous improvements. This adaptive approach enhances plant health and coffee quality.
Circular Feedback for Constant Improvement
Our integrated technologies create a circular feedback system for ongoing refinement, evident in the robust health of our plants and the superior flavor of our coffee.
Our Family Farms
Hacienda la Papaya
Hacienda La Papaya is the Pioneer of coffee cultivation in the Saraguro region, starting in 2010.
Located 15 miles south of Saraguro in the Sierra, the project started in 2009 and the planting in 2010. The farm planted exclusive varieties and constructed the best agricultural technology such as drip irrigation. The vision has always been very clear about produciting only high-quality plants and processes where everything is managed by agronomists. The entire farm at Hacienda la Papaya uses drip irrigation system for the 35,000 plants.

Yunguilla Valley
Juan Carlos Velez’s farm has a 250-year history. The farm originally belonged to the General Ignacio Torres, who fought alongside Simon Bolivar for Cuenca’s Independen- ce. He got married to a Cuencana lady who was Juan Carlos’ ancestral grandmother from an unknown number of generations back.
Galapagos San Cristobal
Finca La Arcadia was established in 2019 by an American businessman, John Silver. He soon found out that growing coffee is not easy. After several attempts, his efforts at growing coffee turned to disaster. John called Juan Peña in 2023 asking for help. Since that time, Juan has been advising Finca La Arcadia in the similar manner that we oversee other Family Farms. The Farm now boast of some of the best coffee on the Islands. We will export our first coffee from Galapagos in 2024.
