The CafExporto team and community gathered at a hillside seed nursery in the southern Ecuadorian highlands
About

Driven by quality, rooted in community.

We believe world-class coffee begins with thriving communities. We grow, mill, and export to a single controlled standard, and we invest in the families, the land, and the culture it comes from.

Our story

From one farm to three communities.

  1. A picker among the coffee trees at Hacienda La Papaya
    2014Where it began

    One farm, one philosophy

Our production started at Hacienda La Papaya in 2014, the flagship farm where Juan Peña’s agronomic philosophy first took shape. It sits within Saraguro territory, where the work still follows the communal minga.

  2. The CafExporto genetic seed bank at Hacienda La Papaya
    The seedWhat we protect

    A genetic bank, kept pure

We preserve each variety and its genetics in the purest way possible. For every variety we maintain 200 plants dedicated exclusively to seed, the pure lineage that every one of our farms inherits.

  3. Championship trophies won with CafExporto coffee
    2016The world tastes it

    The first championships

Coffee grown by Juan begins to take barista and roaster championships. Over the years the record grows to titles across four continents, earned by everyone whose hands touched the lot.

  4. The Integrated Coffee Pulse monitoring dashboard
    The systemCare at every plant

    Integrated Coffee Pulse

A proprietary, fully integrated real-time monitoring system developed in-house, so we can make extremely fast and proactive decisions and reduce or even eliminate the need for pesticides. A lighter hand on the land the communities depend on.

  5. The team at the internal cupping school in Cuenca
    The schoolA shared language

    Everyone learns to cup

We run an internal school for specialty coffee cupping. Our goal is to build a shared language around coffee, so every team member is involved, falls in love with it, and lives it with the same passion.

  6. A worker in the terraced rows at one of the two new farms, Yunguilla and Yacuri
    2025Two more communities

Yunguilla and Yacuri come of age

Production started at both new farms in 2025, first-generation La Papaya seed carried into two more terroirs and two more cultures: Cañari roots in the Yunguilla valley, and the Amazon-facing frontier of Yacuri, on one of the oldest inhabited landscapes in the western Amazon.

  7. Schoolchildren in one of the rural communities the CafExporto Foundation supports
    2025The most valuable crop

    The CafExporto Foundation

For young people in the communities where our coffee grows, the future can feel narrow. We believe the most valuable crop we can plant is knowledge, so the Foundation starts in the classroom, strengthening under-resourced rural schools from preschool through high school.

  8. CafExporto staff training the next generation of producers in the field
    2025Knowledge that returns home

    Sponsoring the next generation

Beyond the classroom, the Foundation sponsors promising students through agribusiness degrees, so the next generation can lead the industry growing around them, and carry what they learn back to the land their families farm.

  9. Finished CafExporto export boxes loaded for shipping
    TodayFrom our hands to yours

    Poured on four continents

We plant, grow and export the finest specialty coffee in the world, and connect the people who drink it with its origins. Around 45 lots, three farms, one standard.

A tour of our three farms, the genetic bank, the sensory lab and the dry mill, in the words of the people who grow and cup every lot. The timeline above, brought to life.

The team

Everyone here cups.

The Coffee School turns the lab into a shared classroom. From the picking line to the export desk, everyone learns to taste, so the standard lives in every pair of hands.
